Tiffany Eakins ’11 came to Shenandoah University because her mother, Shawn Eakins ’98, was an SU alumna. “Shenandoah University helped me to think globally and creatively in regards to my job search.” Eakins believes that the staff guided and connected her to the resources she needed in order to succeed. Eakins felt very cared for while attending the university, and is appreciative for the level of support she received.
“I received so much help and support from the faculty, staff, and even the university president, that it is difficult to elaborate on one specific occasion. They didn’t teach me…they inspired me. They made me want to continue asking questions and continue exploring and I am happy to be in a career that allows me to do both.”
Eakins teaches English as a foreign language to elementary school students at Yeongsanpo Elementary School in South Korea. In addition, she leads extra language classes during the summer and winter breaks. “I live for the moments when students with a lower level of English start speaking in class and experimenting with the language. I love helping students achieve what they had thought to be impossible.”
My overall experience at SU was phenomenal and I really can’t say enough about how great all my professors were. They didn’t just teach me, they inspired me.”
The advice Eakins has for future students is: “Your degrees will present you with opportunities they may not have considered prior to starting the program, so stay flexible and open-minded while job searching post graduation. The creativity you possess, coupled with the research and writing skills you have sharpened, will open many doors and carry you further than you could ever dream.”
